Choose one item a week to splurge on. Have a little everyday to keep away the cravings. Be sure not to bu another snack type item until the first one is gone. When eating out, skip the buffet and stick to the specials board; fewer options and most likely fresher food.

I try to choose an item that I can splurge on once a week but end up buying lots more. That explains my perpetual fight to lose weight ... LOL!
