Will you make it? They say 86% of people will flunk out!
So New Years is just days away. Have you decided what your resolution will be? Are you going to lose weight, quit smoking or drinking? Maybe spend more time with your family....Like me..I am fortunate to still have my Great Grandmother and I don't spend nearly as much time with her as I should! Save money or spend money? Me, I wanna save money...I would really like a new mattress ! A good nights sleep is key to good health as well!
What ever your resolution is, make it meaningful and a reachable goal. Don't stress out if you fall down, just dust yourself off and start again. Nobody is perfect and we will all have bad days but it certainly doesn't mean you can't do it. For instance babies, imagine what this world would be like if all the babies in the world decided they were going to give up learning how to walk and talk. We would have millions of adults whining and crawling all over the place! (That is not a pretty picture!) What do they do? Fall, cry and pick themselves up and try, try again.
With that said, I wish you all the best of luck!
Look out for some changes around here...I will be posting an "About Me" and would like to post some "About You". I would like to make this blog a fun place to be. A place where we can all learn together, have fun, share stories, ideas, tips and so one. So look out for the changes and if you would like to email me you can at adayinthezone@gmail.com .

Good Way To Advertise
So I have been sitting here thinking of a way to promote this blog..I guess there are a million and one ways to do it. I could join blog social sites, have a contest, comment on other peoples blogs and I guess I could just keep going on with the list. But what if I used advertising pens? A pen is something everyone uses. I could leave them in random places like the bank, at a store, restaurants..do a oops I left my pen! It would have my URL on it and if you are a "pen thief" (like me) you are going to use the pen and then place it in your purse or pocket with out thinking about it. One day you will pull that pen out again and think "Oh geezz, look there is a website, hmm, I think I will check it out!"
Yes, no? I think I will give it a shot!

Fried Rice
I love Chinese food..so when I received this recipe in an email I was thrilled. First of all, it is cheaper cause I could make it at home and second of all I don't have to use up a huge amount of my WW's point to eat it. Granted it is not the authentic Veggie Fried Rice, but it still tastes good.
Vegetable Fried Rice
Serves: 8
Using brown rice will give you lasting energy.
INGREDIENTS
3 cups cooked brown rice
1 (10 oz.) package frozen mixed vegetables (or 2 cups fresh vegetables, chopped)
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons olive oil
3 teaspoons low sodium soy sauce
DIRECTIONS
1. In a large pan, heat oil on medium-high heat. Add onion and rice. Stir and cook until onion is soft, about 5 minutes.
2. Reduce heat to medium and add vegetables and meat to rice mixture. Cook 2 minutes for frozen vegetables and 5-7 minutes for fresh vegetables.
3. Spread the mixture out to the sides of the pan, leaving space in the middle for the eggs.
4. Add the eggs, and scramble until cooked firm.
5. Mix the eggs with the rice and vegetables, then sprinkle with soy sauce.

Healthy Kids
I know off hand how hard it is to get kids to eat healthy. My son is 12. soon to be 13 and he is not overly fussy, but there are things he will not eat.
If you have a fussy child then here are some tips for you.
- Do not not force, bribe or coerce your child to eat.
- Set a good example by eating at least five fruits and vegetables, three whole grain products, and three dairy servings per day. Remember, kids learn by example.
- Make mealtimes pleasant. Have fun, talk and laugh. Eat as a family at the dinner table.
- Encourage your children to help in meal planning, preparation, and cleanup. We are all very busy and you need family time when ever you can get it.
- Back off when mealtime becomes a power struggle. Thinks, is it really worth it?
- Accept food binges as phases that will pass.
- Accept the fact that your child is an individual and will dislike certain foods. My son refuses to eat cheese!!
- Do not give up on introducing your child to new foods.
- As the parent, you are responsible for deciding when and what to serve. The child is responsible for deciding how much (if any) they will eat.
- If your child is a fussy eater, give him/her a multivitamin-mineral supplement.

One Holiday Down
one to go! I hope every one had a very Merry Christmas! Mine was good, had fun and I am please to say, thanks to my mother in law, I didn't over do it with the food!
We went to my in laws house yesterday for dinner. She had ham, which was great, green beans with bacon, squash, turnip mixed with mashed potatoes and scalloped potatoes. I didn't eat much for the most part. I had ham, a little bit of green beans and some scalloped potatoes.
The reason I thank her for helping me not eat so much is because she loaded the green beans with butter and added bacon, the scalloped potatoes had that same over buttered and under cheesed feel to them as well! Plus, I just had my mom's scalloped potatoes on Thanksgiving and like my husband said "Kinda hard to go from your mom's to my mom's..No comparison at all!" I don't like to complain about other peoples food but, when you need Ingersoll Rand air tools to get the food out of the pan and a strainer before you can eat it, it's pretty bad. But, I sucked it up and went very light on the food. I skipped on the apple pie, had a few glasses of wine and for the most part..I had a good Christmas.
What about you? Did you have to eat something that you were not to happy about having to eat just to save face?

Vacation and Exercise
Going on vacation? Why not take a vacation that involves fitness? There are a ton of things you could do. Go on a ski trip, a bicycle tour or even going to a theme park involves exercise, all the walking and standing and more walking! If the theme park offers paddle boats then go hop on one of those for a wicked leg work out! Interested in nature parks? Take a hike on a trail...the possibilities are endless.
If you do make the vacation one based around exercise, make sure it is something the WHOLE family will enjoy. Nothing is worse than doing something with your family that only you enjoy. Also be sure that you and everyone going can endure it physically. You wouldn't want to over exert yourself or someone else. So go ahead plan the vacation, dust off the luggage and most of all HAVE FUN!

Have You Taken Them?
Have you ever taken supplements to help you lose weight? I am not proud to say it but, I have. About 5 or 6 years ago I tried hydroxycut. I never really knew if it worked because I was going to the gym and really working hard to lose weight. I never lost any phenomenal amounts of weight. These days I just stick to the old fashion way of eating correctly and exercise.
Did you ever try them? Did you think they worked for you?
