Why Drink Water?

Some people like plain water, like my mom and some people have to have something in water to get it down. Me personally, I can drink water plain. But why drink water at all?? Every single diet you are on tells you DRINK WATER and drink atleast eight, 8 oz glasses a day..but why??

  • Water fills you up
  • It helps your skin look better
  • Flushes away impurities
  • Keeps you hydrated

If you can't drink water plain, add something to it. Fresh lemon or lime juice is my favorite or you could add Crystal Light. Crystal Light comes in a variety of flavors and it also comes in decafe! The long and short of it all, plain water is best, but if you can't do plain, try one of the alternatives.

Tonight's Dinner

So...one of my weakness's, well that would be spaghetti. Not pasta like elbows, ziti, rotini or any of the other endless shapes and kinds that are out there... it has to be SPAGHETTI!! Do you know how hard it is to eat a serving of spaghetti. Unfortunately you don't get very much on your plate...it's so not fair!!

I learned a couple of ways around that meek little serving. There is my favorite, the spaghetti squash trick. You buy a spaghetti squash, bake it and then with a fork, run it through the meat and it comes out in strands like..you guessed it - Spaghetti!

This one is what my mother in law does...she doesn't eat pasta. When her husband makes his wonderful sauce she has it over fresh or frozen steamed green beans. I thought she was off her rocker, I tried it and it was pretty good.

So my dinner consisted of a little bit more spaghetti than I should of had, lots of sauce and a big salad.

Portion Control

I know, portion control stinks!! But if you are trying to lose weight, it is a must!

I know how hard it is when you go to a friend's house for dinner to make sure that you don't over stuff your belly. At home, I measure and or weigh everything I eat and I write it down in a journal.

But at a friend's house you may not want to dirty more dishes or bust out your scale. So here is an idea for you..

  • Take your plate and divide it in 1/2 with an imaginary line.
  • One 1/2 fill up with veggies.
  • On empty side you will draw another imaginary line and split it in 1/2 as well..follow me??
  • One section will be for your starch...now do not make it a huge scoop.
  • The last section will be for your meat..no towers!
  • Wall-la..portion control

Even simpler...if your friend is using disposable plates..like the foam..not good for the enviroment... ones that are already divided into sections, then you are all set!!

Portion control made easy!

Are You Cooking A Holiday Meal?

Is the whole family coming over to your house for dinner. Are they craving you potatoes or homemade stuffing? We all know part of making a great meal is alot of work and part of it involves "taste testing". That is something you want to avoid, as hard as it will be. You can consume a lot of undocumented (if you have a food journal) calories that way. I understand that you want to make sure it has the right amount of spices or the right texture, but it can and will result in extra pounds.

Since John-Fat to Fit will be cooking Christmas dinner..Here are some tips on how to avoid taste testing.

  • Sugar free gum is your friend, chew it!
  • Use a 1/4 teaspoon if HAVE to taste test your food.
  • Try to only fix what you are going to eat, leaving yourself no chance for seconds.
  • If you have prepared more food than you need, portion it into individual containers and freeze or refrigerate immediately.
  • Don't snack while cooking meals

Food For Your.....Hair

Literally!!

So you have lost some weight and are looking good, well that is except for your hair!! Is you hair dry or dull looking? Does it need a boost too..well here are some "recipes" for luscious locks..

Vinegar Conditioner

Vinegar helps soften hair and makes it shine. Don't worry, they say the smell will fade when your hair dries.

4 eggs
2 Tbsp grapeseed oil
2 Tbsp vegetable glycerine
1 cup filtered water
2 tsp apple cider vinegar

Whip all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Massage into freshly shampooed hair and scalp. Leave on for up to 15 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. Unused conditioner must be tightly sealed and refrigerated, and will keep for 3-4 days

This one below, sounds like something you could eat but it is not recommended!

Deep-Conditioning Honey & Yogurt Hair Mask
All of the ingredients in this recipe moisturize and soften your hair.

2 eggs, beaten
1 cup plain, full-fat yogurt
2 Tbsp grapeseed oil (or olive oil)
1 Tbsp honey

Whip all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Apply to dry hair, concentrating on hair ends. Leave on for 15 minutes, covering with a shower cap to contain any drips. Shampoo as usual. Unused conditioning mask must be tightly sealed and refrigerated, and will keep for 3-4 days.

I think I will have to try the second one...

Biggest Loser Season Finale

The end is here and I am sooo excited to see how well all of the contestants have done The Black team has dominated all spots for the finale. They should be proud, considering the were the unchosen ones. Every contestant on that show has a lot to be proud of, losing weight is not easy. I hope it becomes a lifelong change for them, they had been chosen for an opportunity of a life time to work with obviously, some of the best trainers.

Who is going to win?? I guess we will find out tonight!

Got Thunder Thighs??

Yeah...so do I. Here is a way to slim them down!

You can try Two Leg Lifts:

If you have hardwood floors (like me), grab a mat or something soft to lay on.

Lay on either side of your body, doesn't really matter which side you start with, you will work the other side after!

Keeping your legs straight and knees together lift both of your legs in the air. Toes will be pointed forward and feet are flexed. Hold for a count of two and lower. If you need balance, put your hand on the floor. Make sure to only lift your feet and legs about three inches off the floor. Do this as many times as you like, be sure to do the same amount on the other side though, for one set.

Now flip over and do the other side!

That's it! Simple enough...right?

Do you feel the burn yet?? If not, make it harder: Try holding in highest position for 30+ seconds instead of (or in addition to) doing repetitions.

Targets Inner thigh, Outer thigh, Hips, Obliques
