Spring Is Coming!!

I am so excited, we are in the home stretch of winter! Today is March 1st and warmer days are on the way! I can't wait to get to walking. I know, cold weather is not a valid reason to not go walking, but I HATE to be cold and I don't like to bundle up so much that I look like the Michelin Man either! I just order a new MP3 player and purchased a new pair of walking sneakers. I am ready and so motivated to get out there I think I may go crazy if it doesn't warm up soon!

Is anyone else ready to get out there?? Let me know, I was thinking of doing a Spring contest with a prize at the end. The first day of Spring is March 20th. Gives me enough time to think of a prize and get some ground rules set as well. I would hope people would be honest, but seeing as it is online it can be more difficult to prove that they aren't. I am going to go think about this and will have an update later today. I have a Weight Watcher's meeting to attend and I need to go get ready. Any thoughts or ideas please leave me a comment or send and email to adayinthezone at gmail dot com (adayinthezone@gmail.com)

Some already decided information:

  • Contest would start 3/20/08 and end date to be determined
  • There will be a prize for the most miles walked

Takin It Easy In The Shower

So I talked with my Great-Grandmother the other day. The conversations are usually very short and sweet. I don't mind, what does a 90 some odd year old woman have in common with me! She was telling me that she just got one of those shower chairs and just loves it! What ever floats your boat I guess! LOL...she is great though. At least she will be safe while showering, that is what's most important.

Eating Disorder Symptom-Anorexia & Bulimia

Here is a list of signs that could mean a person has an eating disorder. I am not a doctor and no one should assume that if a friend or loved one is showing just a couple of these signs that they have an eating disorder. A doctor's professional opinion should be sought. This is a very serious disorder and should not be ignored!! I can not stress the fact that a professional opinion should be sought and help should be taken immediately.

  • Dramatic weight loss in a short period of time.

  • Wearing big or baggy clothes or dressing in layers to hide body shape and/or weight loss.

  • Obsession with weight and complaining of weight problems (even if "average" weight or thin).

  • Obsession with calories, fat and exercise.

  • Frequent trips to the bathroom immediately following meals (you may hear water running in the bathroom for a long period of time to hide the sound of vomiting).

  • Visible food restriction and self-starvation.

  • Visible binging and/or purging.

  • Use or hiding use of diet pills, laxatives, ipecac syrup or enemas.

  • Fear of eating around and with others. Unusual Food rituals such as shifting the food around on the plate to look eaten; cutting food into tiny pieces; making sure the fork avoids contact with the lips , chewing food and spitting it out, but not swallowing; dropping food into napkin on lap to later throw away.

  • Hiding food in strange places to avoid eating (Anorexia) or to eat at a later time (Bulimia).

  • Flushing uneaten food down the toilet.

  • Vague or secretive eating patterns.

  • Keeping a "food diary" or lists that consists of food and/or behaviors (ie., purging, restricting, calories consumed, exercise, etc.)

  • Pre-occupied thoughts of food, weight and cooking.

  • Visiting websites that promote unhealthy ways to lose weight.

  • Reading books about weight loss and eating disorders.

  • Self-defeating statements after food consumption.

  • Hair loss. pale or "grey" appearance to the skin.

  • Dizziness and headaches.

  • Frequent soar throats and/or swollen glands.

  • Low self-esteem, feeling worthless, often putting themselves down and complaining of being "too stupid" or "too fat" and saying they don't matter. Need for acceptance and approval from others.

  • Complaints of feeling cold.

  • Low blood pressure, loss of menstrual cycle, constipation or incontinence.

  • Bruised or calluses knuckles; bloodshot or bleeding in the eyes; light bruising under the eyes and on the cheeks.

  • Perfectionist personality.

  • Loss of sexual desire or promiscuous relations.

  • Mood swings, depression, fatigue, insomnia and poor sleeping habits

Need A Cleaning?

LOL..I can't tell you how many times I have thought of different corner cutting ways to lose weight! I think the one that has stuck out in my mind the most was when I decided that I was going to cleanse my body. The claims you can lose 20 some-odd pounds just by using a Colon Cleanse or body detoxifying program, sound really easy to do. BUT after some research I changed my mind! I guess it was due to the fact that your body goes through a slightly uncomfortable process. I have absolutely no tolerance for pain and decided that it wasn't really for me! Besides, I have seen some pictures of what they claim is in your body and I really don't want to see it come out of mine!

Have you ever cleansed your body? No extreme details needed!!

Types Of Eating Disorders

Anorexia: This eating disorder individuals starve themselves. Why? Because there is an extreme fear of becoming fat. Besides not eating they will, exercise, take diet pills or purge.

Bulimia: This is a very destructive eating disorder. People tend to over eat then purge. Purging as we all know involves vomiting the food that was consumed in order to get rid of the extra calories. They will also exercise, fast or take laxatives as well.

Binge Eating: People with this eating disorder are compulsive overeaters. They eat fast consuming thousands of calories in a short period of time. They are unable to control the amount of food they eat and will continue to eat EVEN when they are so full it is uncomfortable.

This Week Postings

As you can see to the right, this week is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. This is a very serious disorder and may affect someone you know. I have decided that this week I will dedicate a post everyday about these disorders. There are so many different ways to lose weight, some healthy and some not so healthy. Eating and vomiting, not eating and the use of weight loss drugs such as Hydroxycut are some of the not so healthy ways. Some people may use a combination of a few different weight lose techniques. So please chime in and let me know your thoughts and feelings..

Small Remodel, Kinda

So I have decided to change somethings in my kitchen. Not to much seeing as I rent. The landlord said he will provide the paint and if I wanted to change any fixtured I coould at my own expense. Umm..ok, I really would like some new cabinet knobs, but I certainly am not going to pay for them. I can take them with me when I leave if I wanted to, but who really wants to deal with all that? Not me!! So I decided that I would settle for new paint, oh well whatcha gunna do?

About Time

Awww, no digital signage needed. It is about time they fixed spellcheck, I thought I was going to need start using a digital disclaimer to prove that some of those misspelled words in post's were mine!

I could be the last person in the world to know that s[ellcheck has been fixed but man, it is about time. What a pain it has been for the last few weeks, I know some of my misspelling were missed! I would have thought it would have been fixed long before this, but I guess it really wasn't a tool that Blogger thought people used! Oh well, now it is fixed and that really makes my day! (I know, pretty sad!)

A Whole Lot Of Nothing

I never knew that medical jewelry came in so many different styles. I knew that they had necklaces and bracelets but now they even have sports watches. Any who, so I went to Weight Watcher's on Saturday and it was a gain..I wasn't happy but I guess things like that happen every so often. I kinda had an off week anyway so I guess I really can't be to upset. I really think it was the 2 slices of pizza I had Friday night. What I mean is salt is not my friend, I guess I didn't drink enough water and retained some of the fluid. Oh well, here is to a better week this week!
